Ce sont toujours des espèces qui se bouturent facilement, il suffit d'en casser une tige et de la ficher en terre pour que repousse un nouveau sujet. Dracaena angustifolia Roxb. est la principale espèce connue sous ce nom. Mais on l'attribue aussi à Dracaena reflexa Lam. et Dracaena xiphophylla Baker. (Asparagaceae) De nos jours les Malgaches pensent que ces plantes marquent les sépultures des anciens habitants dits vazimba ; ceux qui vivaient à l'époque où l'on ignorait l'esclavage et la division de la société en classes.
