[Betsimisaraka] (nom relevé anciennement par Chapelier avec l'orthographe « zane », Voir Bulletin Acad. Malgache 10 (1912) p. 305-306) ; il s'agit de Phyllarthron ilicifolium (Pers.) H.Perrier (Bignoniaceae), dont le fruit est bien appelé voamasina (« voué-massine » comme l'écrit Chapelier).

Explanations in French  [Mahafaly] (probablement d'un mot africain). Zanha suaveolens Capuron (Sapindaceae). Le nom scientifique du genre zanha a été créé par Hiern (1896) pour l'espèce d'Afrique orientale Zanha golungensis Hiern. C'est le même mot qu'utilisent les Malgaches pour désigner l'espèce de Madagascar, espèce d'ailleurs côtière et localisée entre Maintirano et la vallée de l'Onilahy. C'est un bel arbre, à tronc souvent renflé, fusiforme, à écorce platanoïde rougeâtre. Celle-ci est employée comme succédané du savon à la manière du « Bois de Panama », surtout pour les tissus les plus délicats (tissus de soie notamment). Elle est riche en saponines.
