37 ou larom-botsy (vient du précédent). Nom du latex des grandes Euphorbes aphylles, notamment Euphorbia laro Drake et Euphorbia tirucalli L. (Euphorbiaceae). On le mêle à du sable sec pour préparer des boules (votsy) qui sont jetées dans l'eau et provoquent rapidement l'intoxication du poisson. D'après Grandidier (Ethnographie), les poissons ainsi capturés sont sans danger pour l'homme. On a cependant constaté des intoxications en saison chaude, mais elles paraissent plutôt liées à une mauvaise conservation du poisson après la pêche. À l'état frais, ses latex sont extrêmement caustiques et peuvent causer la cécité s'ils sont introduits dans l'oeil. On ignore encore la nature du principe actif des Euphorbes qui provoque l'intoxication du poisson. Le verbe mandaro : action de pêcher en utilisant les poissons de pêche (surtout sakalava, mahafaly et tandroy) est dérivé de laro (2)..
