English definition the wild hog, a somewhat common animal in the forest regions of Madagascar and very destructive to plantations. There appear to be two species of this animal: one called lamboniva, inhabiting the lower coast regions, Potamochaerus madagascariensis, or P. africanus, Gray; and another called lambonava, found in the upper forests, P.
