ravenea est un bon exemple des erreurs qui peuvent être faites en philologie malgache. L'explorateur a montré une feuille et demandé le nom. On lui a repondu ravina qui veut dire en malgache "feuille". Il en a conclu, à tort, qu'il s'agissait du nom de l'arbre. Les
anivo fournissent de bons choux palmistes. Leur sève est recueillie pour la production du vin de palme. Ils fournissent aussi des matériaux pour la corderie, la sparterie, la construction des habitations (voir
anivona).
