Bixa orellana L. (Bixaceae). Arbuste d'origine américaine, introduit à Madagascar pour ses graines qui fournissent une matière colorante rouge bien connue, le roucou. C'était aussi le colorant utilisé par les Améridiens (« Peaux-Rouges ») pour leurs peintures corporelles. D'après une autre tradition (côte Est), les graines auraient été administrées aux taureaux de combat comme stimulant, pour accroître leur agréssivité (de sahy (adjectif) : hardi, courageux).
