  [Betsimisaraka, Mahafaly, Taimoro, Tanosy] Terminalia catappa L. (Combretaceae). Le Badamier, arbre souvent planté sur les promenades et auprès des habitations, au bord de la mer. Son nom vient de tafa : causerie, conversation, parce que les gens aiment bien se grouper sous son ombre pendant les heures chaudes, pour y discuter. Amande de fruit comestible. Le fruit lui-même, commercialisé autrefois sous le nom de "myrobalan" jouissant d'une grande réputation médicinale. On en administrait la décoction pour arrêter les diarrhées profuses. Il est très riche en tannins [1.196]
